With the first of October next week, Halloween is right around the corner. In celebration of this week’s Fantastic Beast countdown, I’ve created a DIY Harry Potter Boo Bag with free Harry Potter printables.
Harry Potter Boo Bag DIY
Boo Bags are a big part of the Halloween season but plain boo bags are boring, so we decided to go with a theme. Your Harry Potter enthusiast neighbors will love this Harry Potter themed Halloween Boo Bag.
How To Decorate The Bag
What You Will Need:
- Colored Scrapbook Paper – I used black, red and yellow for Gryffindor
- Tape
- Paper Cutter
- Pencil
- Sandwich Bag (White)
- Glue or Mod Podge
For the outside of the bag, I chose to decorate it in the style of the Hogwarts uniforms. I chose my favorite house, Gryffindor, but you can use any of the houses.
Step One – The Jacket and Vest
No matter what house you choose you will use black scrapbook paper for the jacket. For those pieces, you will want to cut two triangles for both sides. For the vest, you want to cut out two pieces of the main color of the house. For Gryffindor, I chose red for the vest.
Step Two – The Tie
The hardest part of creating the outside of the bag is creating the tie. To create the tie you need to cut out even strips in two different colors. In Harry Potter, the ties they wear are stripped of the two house colors. I cut red strips and yellow strips until there was enough to cover down the length of my bag until it met with evenly with the jacket and vest I previously made.
To make it easier on yourself when lining up the strips of paper, tape them together in the back before gluing down. This way when you need to trim them at an angle for your tie, they don’t move.
Step Three – Putting it Together
Once you have the strips taped together you are going to want to glue all of the pieces on to the bag. I used a glue stick for this step instead of liquid glue. I chose a white lunch bag to match the white undershirts that go with the uniform. The first thing you will want to glue on is the jacket. After the jacket is glued down then you want to glue down the strips for the vest. Finally, fit your pieces of paper to make the tie with the correct angle and glue down. You can slightly tuck each end of the paper under your vest pieces.
What To Put Inside The Boo Bag
The goodies I chose to put inside the Harry Potter Boo Bag were: DIY Gryffindor keychain, Harry Potter chocolate frog, chocolate spiders, a light-up spider I found at the dollar store. I also added a snack mix and a pumpkin that said Boo.
How To Make The Chocolate Spiders
The chocolate Spiders represented Ron’s fear of spiders. I found a silicone chocolate mold from Michaels in their Halloween section. To make the spiders I melted chocolate chips and poured it into the molds.
Make sure to let the chocolate cool in the fridge for at least an hour to make sure that all of the chocolate is hardened before you pop them out.
Harry Potter Boo Bag Printables
To let your neighbors know that they have been booed and not just given an awesome Harry Potter goodie bag you will want to attach the Harry Potter “You’ve Been Booed!” letter to the outside of the bag.

The next thing you want to add to the bag is a “We’ve Been Booed” sign for them to put in their window or on the front door to let other neighbors know that they’ve already been Booed.

The last thing added to the bag is the rules to tell them how to boo their neighbors to keep this fun Halloween tradition going.
